What does Earth Day mean to me?
I pondered over it an entire day
If I can feel or establish
A connect with earth
Then every day would be Earth Day
Not just for me, but for everyone
Having a terrace garden of my own
With a few flowering plants and herbs
I had a chance to observe
At close quarters
The behaviour of plants.
And it is helping me
Develop an intuition
About their condition.
“Why are the leaves yellow?
What are ants doing on this plant?
How come water is draining away?
When will this bud bloom?”
I have activated a connection
That can deepen
And help me scale and work out
Self vis-a-vis Earth
Have you thought about You vis-a-vis Earth?
Nature’s own night lamp
Sleeping under the sky
Mango, Neem, Flame of Forest – all trees in full bloom – appear in the skyline. Yesterday, coastal Chennai, India.
This cat lives in an apartment block where I visit sometimes. She is affectionate and unafraid. A friend to the security officers and cleaning staff there. She shares their lunches and dinners and her humans vouch that she presents herself at mealtimes, as if on cue, with no calling needed! She accepts a bite or two here and there from friends like me too.
I am sure this crow and its mate recognise me. Whenever we meet across the window, this bird looks pointedly at me and/or caws or comes to the closest branch possible and looks in.
I do leave food everyday for birds at another window. So, they probably want that service here too. Or may be it’s just a hello! Whatever it is, it sure is cute!
